SWIMMING
Swim England Framework
Wollescote has signed up to ‘take school swimming seriously’ by implementing the Swim England School Swimming and Water Safety Charter. The Charter will provide us with a comprehensive package of support to ensure the school has the necessary knowledge and resources.
We have designed bespoke systems with the help of the charter, so we can deliver outstanding swimming lessons that has a pure link to the national curriculum and each stage of progression through the Swim England awards.Children will participate in swimming on a weekly basis throughout Years 3 & 4. In years 5 & 6 they will be given an opportunity to do catch up swimming to focus on achieving the national curriculum outcomes which needs to be completed by end of Year 6.
National Curriculum Outcomes:
Each pupil is required to be able to do the following:
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- Use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.

Self Rescue Aquatic Skills
Aquatic Skills & Self Rescue
Water safety is one of the national curriculum outcomes. Swim England have now introduced Aquatic Skills and Self Rescue to lessons so young children learn about the dangers of water and how we can learn to be safe around it as well.
Water can be fun and enjoyable when care is taken, swimming is the only sport that saves lives, but having the swimming and water safety awareness to save yourself or others doesn’t come instinctively, it has to be taught.
Our four key water safety messages specifically for swimming are:
• Always swim in safe place.
• Always swim with an adult.
• If you fall in, float, breathe, relax.
• If someone else is in trouble call 999/112
Wollescote Swimming Pool
Recently we've had the pool updated with the Wollescote colours across the walls and the house colours on the beams. We are very much looking forward to hosting swimming galas in the near future.
